Safety Surfacing FAQ

What makes safety surfacing important?

Safety surfacing reduces the risk of serious injury from falls. It's engineered to absorb impact and protect children during play. All commercial playground surfacing must meet strict ASTM safety standards for fall height protection.

What's the difference between EWF and rubber surfacing?

Engineered Wood Fiber (EWF) is a natural, wood-based material that's cost-effective and offers excellent impact protection. Rubber surfacing (bonded rubber, EPDM, poured-in-place) is more durable, requires less maintenance, and comes in various colors. Both meet safety standards; choice depends on budget, aesthetics, and maintenance preferences.

How much surfacing material do I need?

The amount needed depends on your equipment's fall height, the area under and around the equipment, and local safety standards. Use our mulch calculator above to estimate your needs, or contact us for a professional assessment. We can also conduct a safety inspection to verify your current installation.

Is installation included?

Yes! We offer professional installation services across Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Our CPSI-certified team ensures proper installation to meet all safety standards. Installation costs vary based on material type and project size—contact us for a quote.

How often does safety surfacing need maintenance?

EWF requires more frequent maintenance (raking, top-ups) to maintain proper depth. Rubber surfacing requires minimal maintenance but should be inspected regularly for damage. We offer maintenance programs to keep your surfacing safe and compliant year-round.

Are you CPSI certified?

Yes! Our team includes CPSI (Certified Playground Safety Inspector) certified professionals. This means we understand safety standards deeply and can ensure your installation meets all ASTM, CPSC, and ADA requirements. We can also conduct safety inspections on existing playgrounds.
